KELSTON VISIONING PROJECT

The information available in the following languages

This information is provided to give you a summary of the four proposed options for the Kelston Learning Campus. This follows an initial community engagement that occurred in 2019 where the community gave feedback on the benefits and challenges of a Learning Campus in the area. We recommend you have this information open and available when you take the survey.

The Principals of the Kelston Schools (Kelston Girls’ College, Kelston Boys’ High School, Kelston Intermediate School, and St Leonards Road School) agreed that a Kelston Learning Campus concept would strengthen learning pathways in the area and increase collaboration between schools. This is an opportunity for increased collaboration between these schools. They may explore different ways of collaborating in areas such as curriculum, achievement, governance/leadership, health, wellbeing, etc.

Following the last engagement, the Ministry of Education devised four options to determine what the best way forward might be for this shared campus and a collaborative new approach to education in Kelston.

Note that the schools will still have unique identities and will still be separated on the shared site. This means that the three schools will be able to have separate learning and social spaces. While St Leonards Road School won’t physically move to the campus, it will be able to share curriculum and resources and have access to the shared facilities as part of this campus.

The four options are different pathways to achieve the same vision outcome. This engagement process is designed to assess how to best achieve this vision and how the schools should be structured. You may consider things such as convenience to you, traffic, site visibility, safety, access, and anything else important to you.

Below are the 4 options proposed by the Ministry for how the campus may be structured.

Option 1: Kelston Boys’ High School and Kelston Intermediate School relocate to the current Kelston Girls’ College site.

Option 2: Kelston Boys’ High School relocates to the current Kelston Girls’ College site. Kelston Intermediate School stays where it is.

Option 3: Kelston Girls’ College and Kelston Intermediate School relocate to the current Kelston Boys’ High School site.

Option 4: Kelston Girls’ College relocates to the current Kelston Boys’ High School site. Kelston Intermediate School stays where it is.

The graphic below depicts how each of these options works, i.e. which schools move where.
